Our work in Nicaragua is holistic. It brings the whole gospel of Jesus into the lives of some of the world’s neediest and yet most choice people. A people set apart by God with a destiny and a purpose that is yet to be fulfilled.
The core of our work here is directed toward the reinvigoration of the agricultural economy by joining with the poor of Nicaragua in the creation and operation of small family farms. These farms will be grouped in sets of 7 to 10 into a structure that is cooperative in nature so that through the synergy of interdependence, people may prosper not only economically but socially.
The core of any enterprise is its people. Its people are as strong as their moral core. The application of biblical wisdom and biblical values will build strong individuals, strong families, and strong communities.
Many Nicaraguans have land that they cannot afford to farm because the loan required to fund the project puts their land in jeopardy. With about $4,000 (US) we can take a typical poor family and set them up in their own farming enterprise, partnering with them, enabling them to work their way out of poverty within 6 to 12 months. Their startup capital is repaid over about 7 years from the profitability of the farm rather than through an interest bearing loan. This helps them sidestep the confiscatory banking structures that are designed, whether purposefully or not, to take their land.
When the funds are repaid, they can be directed back into the development of another farm for another family.
